This 18-year old will be a convicted sex offender and required to register and post as a sex offender for the rest of his life.

He tried to befriend a 13- and a 14-year old girl for sex.  This used to go on all the time -- but usually in teen clubs, skating rinks and such.  Rarely did it get prosecuted.  Look at the section on the federal government giving grants IF the states would begin prosecuting underage sexual activity.

Teen Charged In Internet Sex Case

An 18-year-old will face felony charges for allegedly trying to solicit sex from a minor.

The state attorney general and Troy police filed charges Monday afternoon against Christopher Gugger, 18. He was charged in district court with one count each of child sexually abusive activity and using a computer to commit child sexually abusive activity.

Authorities said that Gugger met an undercover officer posing as a 13-year-old girl online July 12 in a chat room. The suspect began to instant message the undercover officer and allegedly suggested meeting to have sex, according to Attorney General Jennfier Granholm's office.

Gugger was arrested after arranging a meeting with who he thought was the 13-year-old in a Troy park on July 19. When the suspect showed up, officers made the arrest.

Investigators said that Gugger allegedly admitted to setting up a similar rendezvous with a 14 year old girl earlier this year, in which he engaged in sexual activity, Granholm said.

"Though it has become just another part of our daily lives, there is still danger on the 'information superhighway,'" Granholm said in a statement.
