I. Ages for legal purposes
Age of simple majority
The legal age of majority is fourteen (14) years for female and male persons.
Age of consent for sexual activity
The legal age of consent for sexual activity is not decided in the legislation. It is
determined in any case by the decision of a medical examiner.
Age of consent for marriage
The legal age of consent for marriage is sixteen (16) years for female persons and
eighteen (18) years
for male persons.
II. Rape
‘Unlawful sexual intercourse with Minors’, Article 100 of the Penal
Code
" Committing unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl, under the age of fourteen (14)
or having not reached the age of puberty, is punished by imprisonment term varying from
five (5) to fifteen (15) years.
In case of violent sexual intercourse, or having inflicted the injured person serious
physical harm,
the imprisonment term varies ten (10) to twenty (20) years.
In case, following it, the minor has been inflicted death or committed suicide, the act is
punished
by an imprisonment term not less than twenty years. "
‘Violent unlawful sexual intercourse with Minors aged between fourteen (14) and
eighteen (18)’, Article 101 of
the Penal Code
" Committing violent unlawful sexual intercourse with a girl aged between fourteen
(14) and eighteen (18), having reached the age of puberty, is punished by an imprisonment
term varying from five (5) to ten (10) years.
In case of inflicting the minor’s health serious harm, the imprisonment term varies
from ten (10) to fifteen (15) years.
In case the injured has been inflicted death or committed suicide, the act is punished by
an imprisonment term varying from ten (10) to twenty (20) years. "
III. Other forms of child sex abuse
‘Unlawful sexual intercourse with vulnerable persons’, Article 103 of the Penal
Code
" Committing unlawful sexual intercourse with a female, having reached the age of
fourteen (14) and the age of puberty, availing oneself of her physical and mental
capability or her been subject to unconsciousness, is punished with an imprisonment term
varying from five (5) to ten (10) years.
In case the injured has been inflicted serious harm, the imprisonment term varies from
five (5) to fifteen (15) years.
In case, following it, the injured has been inflicted death or committed suicide, the act
is punished by imprisonment term varying from ten (10) to twenty (20) years. "
‘Gross indecency’, Article 108 of the Penal Code
" Committing acts of gross indecency with or towards a child (of either sex) under
the age of fourteen (14) is an offence punished by up to five (5) years imprisonment term.

‘Homosexuality’, Article 116 of the Penal Code
" Instances of homosexual intercourse, in case violently inflicted, with minors or
vulnerable individuals, are punished by up to five (5) years imprisonment term. "
‘Incest’, Article 106 of the Penal Code
" Unlawful sexual intercourse committed between parents and children, brother and
sister, between the other persons related in direct descent, or persons related by
guardianship or adoption are punished by up to five (5) years imprisonment term. "
IV. Child prostitution
‘Indulging prostitution’, Article 114 of the Penal Code
" Soliciting, mediating and receiving financial gains with relevance to committing
prostitution is punished with fines or by up to five (5) years imprisonment term.
The above, in case involving a minor or use of violence against her, is punished by
sentences varying from five (5) to ten (10) years imprisonment term. "
V. Child pornography
‘Pornography’, Article 117 of the Penal Code
" Manufacturing, distributing, advertising, importing, selling and publishing
pornographic materials in the minor’s environment, constitute a penal act punished
with fines or by up to two (2) years imprisonment term. "
